Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago and SOS Children’s Villages Illinois Launch Groundbreaking New Partnership

Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago is excited to pilot a new and innovative partnership with SOS Children’s Villages Illinois to provide high quality after-school programming for children in need and other children in the Auburn-Gresham and Englewood neighborhoods.
For many years, both SOS Children’s Villages Illinois and Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago have been fulfilling their respective missions of giving young people stable and safe environments and communities in which to thrive and grow. Given the natural alignment of organizational values and the growing need for supportive outlets for young people in Chicago, the partnership is a natural fit.

Beginning in late 2016/early 2017, Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago (BGCC) will begin providing programming and services to a small group of youth at an extension site based out of SOS Children’s Villages Illinois’ Chicago Village, a 7.5 acre neighborhood for youth in foster care, located at 7600 S. Parnell Avenue, Chicago, IL 60620.

The Chicago Village’s Community Center offers a state-of-the-art facility in which to provide after school homework support, recreational activities, character development opportunities and more. BGCC will offer core programming, including Power Hour (designed to improve study habits and academic performance), Triple Play (focused on developing a healthy lifestyle), and SMART Girls/Passport to Manhood (gender-specific character and confidence building programs). SOS Children’s Villages Illinois and BGCC feel these programs will support the fundamental success of the young people in foster care with SOS Children’s Villages Illinois.

During the pilot phase, the program will be targeted to an average daily attendance of approximately 30 members. Memberships will be offered, free of charge, to these youth who will be recruited specifically from the SOS Children’s Village Illinois program and the surrounding neighborhoods. These young people will be served by a part-time staff member trained and employed by Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago.

This partnership meets a need within the SOS Children’s Village Illinois community and the surrounding Auburn-Gresham and Englewood neighborhoods while also allowing BGCC to expand services to a youth population in an area with high need for them.
