Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago Celebrates $50,000 Renovation from Lowe’s with the Re-Launch of the Club’s Teen Center

The Louis L. Valentine Boys & Girls Club is hosting a grand re-opening event where guests will get a first look of the facility’s newly refurbished Teen Center. The updated Teen Center features everything from new lighting, furniture and flooring to technology upgrades including a TV, computer stations, projector, game console, Blu Ray player, arcade game and all updated teen-centric décor.
One focus of the newly renovated Teen Center is to provide a dedicated area for art and creative works, which many Club teens use as an outlet to decompress and express themselves.  With this in mind, the Club will also be unveiling an original mural masterpiece created using a design from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America 2016 National Fine Arts "Best in Show" winner with added elements from the local Lowe’s volunteer artists who are painting the mural for the Club.
In 2016, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) and Lowe’s teamed up for their $2.5 million Renovation Across the Nation initiative to strengthen and revitalize one Club in all 50 states. The Valentine Boys & Girls Club was selected for the Illinois renovation and an exciting $50,000 grant from Lowe’s.
Utilizing the grant funds and the expertise of volunteers from local Lowe’s stores, the Club made critical improvements to ensure it remains a safe and inviting place for area youth who need it most.  The Valentine Club afterhours teen program is the only dedicated provider in the area giving teens a safe-haven and the Club’s burgeoning teen membership had outgrown the existing shared space it had with the Club’s younger members.
