Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago has adopted the Formula for Impact to ensure all of our Club members have great futures.  Our Formula begins with identifying three priority outcomes for 2012: Academic Achievement, College and Career Readiness, and Combatting Obesity.  Here, we examine programs that maximize our direct impact to the health and futures of Chicago’s children and teens.

Childhood obesity is a reality for many of the communities we serve. Two out of every three children in five primarily minority communities in Chicago (North Lawndale, South Lawndale, Humboldt Park, West Town and Roseland) are obese.  Our Healthy Habits program is giving youth the knowledge, skills and motivation to make healthier food choices and to increase activity levels. The program, which is sponsored in part by the Sara Lee Foundation, is helping young people determine foods’ nutritional value and portion size. Lessons are underscored by the 345,600 nutritious meals served by BGCC each year as well as activities that ensure all youth participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
