The Beethoven Boys & Girls Club held a health fair in collaboration with Beethoven and Farren Elementary Schools, the Dawson Ford Health Clinic, UIC Health Services, Project Harambee, Firman Community Services, and the Parent Advisory Council (PAC). There were over 500 students in attendance - the entire Beethoven Elementary student population; as well as over fifty (50) parents from both schools.
Healthy blended treats were prepared at the smoothie bar by Beethoven club manager, Rita Sodipe and program instructor, Angelo Grayer. Participants were also given recipes to continue the fun at home. Blood Pressure checks were conducted by both the Dawson Ford Health Clinic and UIC Health Services. And Project Harambee in conjunction with Firman Community Services hosted a physical fitness challenge that included aerobics and a rope climb. Literature was passed out regarding nutritional snacks, diet, exercise, and other related health topics. Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago sponsored a CPR class that included BGCC staff members, as well as 5 community members. “The event was a total success!” noted Rita Sodipe, Beethoven club manager.
