BGCC Loses a Dedicated Leader and Friend

Earl Shapiro was named Chairman of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago Corporate Board in January 2005 by a unanimous vote of his fellow directors. He joined the board in 2003 and served as vice chair of the board during the last six months of 2004. During his time with BGCC, Mr. Shapiro provided outstanding fiscal leadership by developing new resources and increasing board contributions. He inspired BGCC staff and board members to a new level of performance within the organization.

Earl Shapiro’s many years of hard work and leadership as a member, and Chairman of the BGCC corporate board have been invaluable. He was completely devoted to the organization and committed to our mission.

Bob Howard, Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago President & CEO stated “Without a doubt, Earl Shapiro and his commitment and contributions to BGCC has influenced each of us both personally and professionally. More importantly, he and his legacy have touched the lives of thousands of children in Chicago by providing them with positive opportunities and quality youth development programs.”

Mr. Shapiro passed away on May 26, 2008; he was 68 years old. Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago is privileged and most fortunate to have been the recipient of Earl Shapiro’s generosity of spirit. He will be missed as a leader and a friend.
