Starting the School Year Off with a Bang
Tilton Boys & Girls Club along with George W. Tilton elementary school held a back to school carnival for the East Garfield community and students. The carnival was held on the west end of the school playground lot located at 233 N. Keeler. Community residents and Tilton students were treated to hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, popcorn and soda. Residents and students played a variety of games, received prizes and a host of free give-a-ways. Over 200 residents came out to support this initiative, welcome students back to school and embrace the Tilton Boys & Girls Club as one of their new after school partners.
Tilton Boys & Girls Club also collaborated with Tilton elementary to host their first “Bring your Parent to School” Day. Over 80 parents came out to support this special event. Parents were received by Principal Satterwhite at 9:00 am and led to the auditorium for an overview of the school’s plans to reach higher heights. Tilton Boys & Girls Club Manager, Mrs. Wolfe, was allowed to share the mission, goals and role of the Boys & Girls Club as it pertains to helping the school to reach these higher goals. Parents were given pamphlets about Club programs as well as a tour of the club. Parents then spent the rest of the morning observing what their children do on a daily base in the classrooms. This event opened the doors of communication between teachers, parents, students and club staff.
