OUR STORY

The General Robert E. Wood Boys & Girls Club was established in 1956 and was named after the then CEO of Sears, Roebuck & Co., General Robert E. Wood. The Club is one of the largest community centers in Chicago and provides a variety of services to residents of the Little Village neighborhood which has the leading Latino population in the city.

CLUB DIRECTOR BIO

Hermilo Hinojosa was appointed the Area Club Director of the General Wood and Little Village Units in June of 2007.
Mr. Hinojosa began his career with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago at the General Wood Unit as the Education Director in 1998. In 2002 he became General Wood’s Program Director and focused on staff development to assemble the best team possible to offer a variety of fun and exciting programs. Over the course of 10 years, Hermilo has led efforts to transform the General Wood and Little Village Boys & Girls Clubs into exemplary units with a focus on character and leadership development.
Hermilo began his professional career as a history teacher at Latino Youth Alternative High School in the Little Village community and earned an undergraduate degree in History from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana in 1993.
Hermilo came to Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago from the Chicago Housing Authority where he was responsible for training as part of the Human Resources department. Prior to joining the CHA, Hermilo led Youth Options Unlimited, a collaboration of ten agencies working together to address youth issues on the north side of Chicago. Hermilo also spent time working in the drug prevention field for the State of Colorado .Click here to view a directory of our Board members.
