OUR STORY

The Robert R. McCormick Boys & Girls Club has been an anchor of hope, fun and stability in the lives of Chicago’s Uptown Community youth since 1958 with the support of the Robert R. McCormick Charitable Trust, Senator W. Russell Arrington, W. Clement Stone and area businesses and residents. The Club today serves 2400 members annually and 350 members age 6-18 daily. The facility is one of the largest multi-service Clubs of Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago and features (4) distinct and exceptional programs not offered at any other Club location:

  • Peer Pedersen” Technology & Education Center which helps to enhance technology opportunities for the hundreds of members served.
  • Peter A. Hess Scholarship Program encourages and enables deserving members the opportunity to continue their higher educational pursuits.
  • Crest Smile Dental Clinic – staffed with dental students from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Dentistry through a partnership with the University. The McCormick Club has established a much needed dental care service for Club members from the community who would not ordinarily be able to afford these services.
  • Bea Pounian Academy of the Arts Program -named in memory of one of our most dedicated Board Managers. The academy enables Club members the opportunity to receive hands on training from professional instructors in the areas of digital and traditional art. Classes in photography, ceramics, oil painting, sewing, choir and dance, movie making and art history as well as a music recording studio are available. This past year, with financial support from Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the Academy implemented a Drama Matters Pilot for youth interested in drama programming. The program exposes Club members to acting techniques and experiences.
