These programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment and social and interpersonal skills.
Games – Above all, kids want to have fun. With this in mind, at Boys & Girls Clubs, we have game rooms at every Club. Whether foosball, eight ball, Ping-Pong or air hockey, kids can play a variety of games while learning interpersonal skills and sportsmanship through fun competition.
Intramural Sports – Club members learn about team building
and can enhance their own athletic skills through various sports.
We give kids a chance to compete with Boys & Girls Club members
from other Clubs in kickball, softball, basketball, soccer, track
and field and fitness challenges. Through these activities, kids
stay fit while having fun.
Our outstanding Interagency Sports Leagues offer competitive athletic
opportunities for both male and female members to participate
in volleyball, basketball, softball and flag football games and
tournaments. Last year, Boys & Girls Clubs of America honored
the Cotter Club for leading our sports league by awarding them
with the Merit Honor Award for Sports, Fitness & Recreation.
Water Sports – Several of our Clubs have pools so members
can learn water safety, how to swim and even how to kayak. In
addition, members can compete in relays, learn water polo and
play tag.
Field Trips – Young members become exposed to
a variety of environments and activities outside their own neighborhoods.
Our Clubs offer trips to nature centers, local beaches, museums,
professional sporting events, circuses, amusement parks, skating
rinks, restaurants and plays. Supervised by adults, these field
trips help open members’ eyes to new opportunities and experiences.
