Renovations coming summer 2017 to the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Club!

I am pleased to announce that starting this summer the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boy & Girls Club will undergo an extensive and much needed renovation. Specifically, the club will receive a new roof, updated HVAC system, and restored swimming pool. These improvements are critical to the positive Club experience of its members and will impact the community as a whole for the better. From being able to offer an indoor pool to the community to giving the neighborhood’s children a safe, air-conditioned option in the summer months, we are excited to make the investment the King Club and its community deserves. With this renovation, the Club will be able to serve even more young people and their changing needs, and still remain a safe place for kids to go for years to come.

To maintain the safety of our members, we will temporarily close the King Club during the construction. During that time, Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago will provide daily transportation for King Club members from King Club to and from our James R. Jordan Boys & Girls Club located at 2102 W. Monroe Street, so that the Boys & Girls Club experience of our members will be uninterrupted. Our Jordan Club is located less than a mile and a half away from King Club.

The last day of programming will be Friday, June 16, 2017 before the temporary closing of King Club. Starting with summer camp on June 26, 2017, bus service to the Jordan Club will begin. We are aiming to complete the King Club’s renovations during the 2018-2019 school year.

I recognize this decision will impact families, and our desire is to make this as seamless a transition as possible. We will share important details in the coming weeks through our King Club staff in regards to transportation and summer programs. If you need further clarification, please reach out to our office's at 312-235-8000 or

We are privileged to serve you and your children, and we look forward to your continued participation in BGCC’s programs. We can’t wait for you to join us at the grand-reopening of the newly renovated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boys & Girls Club.
